Jian thermospheric fighter part II

Hello all. Have a happy 2013 ! After a small hiatus, here we go again.

This is the Jian bomber-turned exo-athmospheric fighter, part II of III.

The current configuration is anti-orbital, with extra-sensors and targeting pods.

In the weapons bay is a single stage missile, and on the wingtips are both a laser and a counter-measure pod. Note that this is an atypical payload seldom used: the take-off weight with the auxiliary tanks (not shown) would be too great for take off in anything but the best conditions.

Furthermore, with such weight, the flight profile would expose many components to excessive kinetic heating while the aircraft gains altitude. A more conventional load-out would be the laser or the missile alone, or two smaller missiles in the weapons bay and extra fuel tanks on the wing tips.

In the last part, I will finish working on the textures, correct some mistakes and pose the aircraft on a small portion of tarmac with some ground-crew.

The model is sculpted on 3DS max, and weights about 7400 faces everything included. Texture is 1024x1024 and includes all payload.

    1. Thank you Nevil. I got to admit that I have this soft spot for soviet designs: they literally exude power !
